High-Speed Pursuit In East El Paso Ends In Rollover

EL PASO — An underage teen suspect leads DPS officers and sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle in far East El Paso.
Investigators said officers originally attempted to stop the teen near the intersection of George Dieter and Montana. When the teen refused to stop, officers gave chase heading north on George Dieter.
The driver turned eastward on Montana, heading into oncoming traffic, swerving and missing several vehicles in the process. Officers said the chase reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
One DPS officer in pursuit pulled along side the white 2006 Chevy Cobalt and fired at the vehicle’s tires in an attempt to disable it. Authorities addedthat the suspect attempted to run the officer off the road while dodging the oncoming traffic.
Still travelling down Montana, the driver eventually lost control of the car and rolled it over several times about two miles past the Hueco Tanks entrance. Amazingly, the teen walked away from the crash with only minor cuts and bruises.
The teen was examined at a local hospital and subsequently released into the custody of his parents. No charges had been filed, but officials said charges werepending.
