Savers in Las Cruces reopens after car crashed through store, killing one

Update (5/8/24): Las Cruces Police say they are still investigating.

"Of the 12 injured whose ages were provided, 11 are women and one is a 70-year-old man," police explained. "The women range in age from 26 to 88. Eight of the injured are older than 60."

Two people were injured but were not treated by EMTs. Two of the injured were employed at the store.

The Savers store is now back open.

Update: Las Cruces Police say that one person is dead. They identify the victim as 67-year-old Pamela Kaye Nelson. 10 people were rushed to the hospital. Two of the victims were employees, while the other 13 were customers. The ages of the victims range from about 30 to 90, according to police.

The 69-year-old woman driving the car has not been identified. She was not injured, according to police. Police say that an initial investigation revealed the woman allegedly hit the accelerator instead of the brake while trying to park.

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The Las Cruces Fire Department says 15 people are injured Tuesday morning after an SUV crashed through the front of a thrift store in Las Cruces.

It happened at the Savers on 2340 N. Main Street just before 10 A.M.

Fire Chief Jason Smith says one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and another 9 people required hospitalization for their injuries as well.

He says the other people that were injured either refused hospitalization, and/or walked away with their injuries.

The driver of the car is also included in that number, who Smith says suffered minor injuries.

Smith says the Las Cruces Police Department is currently investigating what led up to the crash.

First responders from LCFD, LPCD, Doña Ana County Fire Rescue, and AMR all assisted on the scene.
