Cobos ‘Emphatic’ He Will Not Resign
EL PASO — County Judge Anthony Cobos said he was “emphatic” he would not resignat a Wednesday afternoon news conference at the County Courthouse.
“I have called this press conference to state in the most emphatic terms that I have no intention to resign the office of County Judge,” Cobos said.
At the news conference, he claimedCounty Commissioner Veronica Escobar “leaked attorney-client privileged information to her political allies including David Crowder and a blog he works for,” Cobos said, referring to Newspaper Tree.
“It is obvious my political adversaries, Jose Rodriguez, Veronica Escobar and Ray Stafford of the El Paso Times are putting politics ahead of the best interests of the county and the continuation of sound public policy,” Cobos said.
The El Paso Times and our news partners at Newspaper Tree have been reporting, often using unnamed sources, that a transition of power was imminent and that Cobos could resign as soon as year’s end.
Escobar is often mentioned as a future candidate for county judge. However, she told ABC-7,”I don’t know what benefit I could possibly get out of beginning rumors that he’s going to resign. Honestly, when it comes to the county judge, I usually duck and stay out of the firing line.”
