Frame Of Dream Home Taking Shape On Day 4 Of Extreme Makeover
EL PASO, Texas — The pacehas beennon-stopon the construction of a new dream home for Maria Ruiz and her family.
By Thursday afternoon, the walls of the newhomehad beenraised.
A spiraling woodenstaircase went up Thursday morning as crews sawed and hammered at the constructionsite for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.Hundreds gathered to watch them on the first day spectators were allowed at the site.
“This is impressive how they got all the framework and everything together. It’s going up so fast. I guess that’s the most impressive thing about it,” said Carlos Renova, who came out to see the progress of the house on Thursday.
Thursday morning, production crews filmed a segment with designers Eduardo Xol and Paul DiMeo where donated goods were unloaded from a truck and brought to adonation tent.
Designers Paige Hemmis and Rib Hillis were also on-site. “All the people are so wonderful. They’ve opened their hearts and arms to us. It’s been wonderful,” Hemmis told ABC-7.
Cement trucks, cranesand other heavy machinery were at the construction site. Volunteers in blue T-shirts and white hard hats were working in six-hour shifts.
Two women who had volunteered for the showtold ABC-7 they had never worked in construction before, and were assigned to only a single shift due to the large numbers of volunteers who had signed up to work on the project.
The Ruiz’s old two-story home was demolished Wednesday, and the debris was cleared out to make way for a brand new home courtesy of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Volunteers worked through the night to pourthe foundation at 813 Los Lagos Way.
Spectators are welcome to visit the construction site from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting today.
Parking will be available at Abundant Living Faith Center at 1000 Valley Crest in the Lower Valley. To get to the church, take the Lee Trevino exit off I-10 and then Gateway East to Valley Crest. Go south on Valley Crest to Abundant Living Faith Center.
Shuttle buses will run on a continuous schedule to transport spectators to andfrom Abundant Living Faith Centerand the build site.
Volunteers and spectators are asked to bring canned goods to donate to the Ruiz family’s ministry in Juarez.
