Millions May Be Headed To Border To Stop U.S.-Mexico Gun Flow

by ABC-7 Reporter Marissa Monroy

EL PASO, Texas — Millions of dollars from President Barack Obama’s stimulusplan could be headed to the border to keep violencein Mexicofrom trickling over.

The bloodbath across the border has continued day after day, month and after month.

But now the federal government is hoping to put an end to the violence by providing $10 million to stop the gun flow from the U.S. to Mexico.

The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm Bureau estimates 90 percent of weapons seized in Mexico come from the U.S., which surprised people like Miguel Gonzalez.

“I thought it would come from more inside Mexico. Where they would build them there and then bring them here, so that’s pretty surprising,” Gonzalez said.

The $10 million in the stimulus bill is part of a larger $40 million fund that is up for grabs among local law enforcement agencies along the border.
