UPDATE: Fire At Juarez Maquiladora Contained
JUAREZ, Mexico — A fire that started in a Juarez maquiladora Tuesday afternoon has been contained, but officials have decided to let the rest of it burn out.
They say it could take a few days for the flames to die off. Fire units are still at the scene sifting the embers to make sure the fire does not reignite, according to the Juarez Fire Department. So fartheblazehas not reignited.
No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters believe the fire was started by a short circuit inside the MCS de Mexico plant in south Juarez.
The fire spread into another maquila, FoxComm.
On Tuesday night Juarez Mayor Jose Reyes Ferriz asked El Paso Mayor John Cook for permission to use a special ladder fire unit.
Mayor Cook checked if it was possible to lend the unit out, but Juarez firefighters changed their attack and the El Paso unit was never needed.
Heavy smoke from the fire was visible in El Paso.
