Man Wanted For Allegedly Battering Girlfriend Arrested For DWI
SIERRA COUNTY, N.M. — A Dona Ana County man wanted for allegedly battering his girlfriend and taking her car without permission was arrested on a DWI charge in Sierra County, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials said.
Carlos Daniel Candelaria, 43, a resident of Placitas near Hatch, N.M., was detained when he tried to pass a Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 25 about 3:20 a.m. Thursday.
Agents saw that he appeared to be intoxicated and called Sierra County Sheriff’s deputies. Candelaria was arrested and booked into the Sierra County Detention Center, officials said.
A detention center officer realized Candelaria was wanted in Dona Ana County after reading an article in a Las Cruces newspaper. Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials were notified about 5:30 a.m.
Candelaria is being held without bond because the DWI arrest was his fifth DWI arrestand he also has warrants for failure to appear and other traffic-related charges, sheriff’s officials said.
Candelariais accused of battering his 47-year-old girlfriend on two different occasions in one week then taking her car without permission as he fled her home. Hewas driving his girlfriend’s vehicle at the time of the arrest, officials said.
