Former Sheriff’s Deputy Wanted For Kidnapping, Sexual Assault
EL PASO COUNTY, Texas — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is seeking 50-year-old Peter Calzada, a former sheriff’s deputy wanted for sexual assault, kidnapping and official misconduct.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jesse Tovar said Calzada and another formersheriff’s deputy kidnapped a woman in the Upper Valley in 1998 and sexually assaulted her.
Both were formally charged and arrested. The other sheriff’s deputy is serving time in prison, but Calzadafailed to appear in court for sentencing on the charges in 2003 and has not been seen or heard from since, Tovar said.
“He gave us such a black eye back in 1998. People didn’t want to pull over for sheriff’s deputies fearing that that might happen tothem,”Tovar told ABC-7.
Sheriff’s officials believe Calzada may be hiding with family members who live in Hudspeth County, Texas, and Dona Ana County, New Mexico, as he crosses back and forth into Mexico.
Calzada is 5’6″ tall, 170 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. Officials believe he now wears his hair long and has gained weight. He has a scar on his right wrist.
