Sun Bowl’s Ratings Go Up

El Paso, Texas – The 76th edition of the Brut Sun Bowl, featuring Oklahoma vs. No. 19 Stanford, produced the highest overnight television rating the game has received in eight years, according to Sun Bowl officials.

TheNew Year’s Eve game received a 3.6 rating and an 8 percent share. Oklahoma defeated Stanford 31-27.

The broadcast received a 50 percent increase over last year’s Oregon State-Pittsburgh match-up that resulted in a 2.4 rating and 6 percent share.

It is the highest overnight rating for a Sun Bowl game since 2001, when No. 14 Washington State beat Purdue, 33-27. That game recorded a 3.7 rating and a nine percent share during the overnight ratings.

The Oklahoma-Stanford match-up also featured the first time the Sun Bowl has sold out 10 days prior to the game and produced the largest crowd in bowl and stadium history – 53,713.
