Truck Driver Convicted In Deming Traffic Deaths
DEMING, N.M. (AP) – A San Diego truck driver has been convicted by a New Mexico jury of three counts of vehicular homicide in a crash on Interstate 10.
No sentencing date was immediately scheduled for 38-year-old Eli German Flores, who was convicted Wednesday in the October 2008 deaths of 23-year-old Jacob Kendrix of Hobbs, N.M., and 77-year-old Jessie Charles and 74-year-old Louise Charles, both of Stephens, Ark.
State District Judge Daniel Viramontes denied a defense request to release Flores from jail.
Flores faces up to 21 years in prison. The tractor-trailer Flores was driving hit Kendrix’s motorcycle, which was pushed into a sport utility vehicle that was carrying the Arkansas couple.
Investigators testified the tractor-trailer was traveling 70 to 75 mph while approaching a construction zone.
