New LC Convention Center Takes Shape

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – The Las Cruces Convention Center is starting to take shape both on site and on paper.

As crews begin hoisting steel into place, convention center officials are beginning to book events.

Las Cruces City Manager Terrence Moore said the convention center is about 10 percent completed with significant progress expected in the coming months.

Convention Center General Manager David Hicks said about 20 groups are in negotiations to book events starting in January 2011.

In October, the New Mexico High School Coaches’ Association announced it intends to conduct its annual conventions at the 55,000-square-foot facility in 2011 and 2014.

More than 350 coaches from throughout the state are expected to attend those conventions.
