Music Under The Stars Canceled, Show Expected To Continue

Tonight’s concert has been canceled due to weather conditions.

Local band Sleepercar was scheduled to perform at tonight’s Music Under the Stars at the Chamizal National Memorial Park.

According to the festival’s Facebook page, Sleepercar will perform at its studio tonight at 8 pm. The address is 1220 Texas Avenue.

Sleepercar, an alt-country-rock band, has released one CD and is working on the follow-up album. The band has toured the world and opened for Coldplay on the English band’s last tour.

Sleepercar’s lead vocalist and main songwriter is Jim Ward, formerly of At the-Drive-In and Sparta.

The band is known to perform some of Ward’s solo songs, as well as cover songs by the likes of The Rolling Stones, Flying Burrito Brothers, and Bob Dylan.

2010 marks the 27th season of Music Under the Stars World Music Festival! The outdoor concert series has become one of El Paso’s premier family events and one of the largest free music festivals in Texas. Boasting performances by both internationally acclaimed and local artists, Music Under the Stars’ 2010 season will feature evenings of Brazilian beats, Salsa and Merengue, Western Swing, Jazz, Mariachis, and our traditional 4th of July Extravaganza!

Certain visiting artists will give free master classes, fostering El Paso’s budding musicians. The upcoming season will feature a “4th of July Spectacular” with a patriotic concert by the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and a closing fireworks display.
