Las Cruces Police Seek Potential Victims In Child Porn Case

Las Cruces Police investigators are attempting to locate any potential victims of a man who was arrested July 19 on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.

David Rounbehler, 74, of the 4300 block of Del Prado Way in Las Cruces, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Boston , Mass., and is charged with seven counts each of possessing and distributing images related to sexual exploitation of a child. Rounbehler is waiting extradition to New Mexico with bond set at $1 million.

Based on evidence recovered from Rounbehler’s residence, including photos of children in his company, investigators believe there are victims who have yet to be identified.

Rounbehler has lived in Las Cruces since 2006 but is known to have spent time in, or frequented, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa in Florida and Wisconsin . He also spent time in several cities in Massachusetts including Boston, Cape Cod, West Harwich, Harwich, Dennis Port, Bedford, North Chelmsford, Chelmsford and Plymouth .

Anybody who suspects Rounbehler may have committed a sex-related crime – particularly a sexual assault or exploitation of a child crime – is asked to contact Las Cruces Police detectives at (575) 528-4222 or at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

A multi-agency investigation headed by the Las Cruces Police Department – using technology to combat cybersex crimes against children – led to Rounbehler’s arrest.

Las Cruces Police said that on April 30, they learned that Rounbehler was trafficking child pornography via the Internet. Working in conjunction with agents and deputies from the Las Cruces offices of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators initiated a search warrant on Rounbehler’s home on June 8, 2010, and verified the existence of the sexually explicit images and videos on his computers, according to police officials.

Sometime after June 8, Rounbehler and his wife put their Del Prado Way home on the market, sold their vehicle, changed telephone numbers and traveled to Boston. Deputies from the U.S. Marshals Service tracked Rounbehler to Boston .
