Border Patrol Agent Run Over In Hit-And-Run After Motorcycle Accident With Dog
New Mexico State Police are investigating a crash that occurred early Sunday, Aug. 22 in which a U.S. Border Patrol agent was run over after his shift ended.
New Mexico State Police officers responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash in which Jasper Rowell, 22, of Las Cruces, New Mexico was driving his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Interstate 10 at milepost 155. Rowell, a US Border Patrol Agent was driving home after his shift when a dog ran out in front of him. Rowell struck and killed the dog and lost control of his motorcycle.
According to Rowell, while he was lying in the roadway another vehicle stopped just before running him over. Rowell was just under the front bumper.
The passenger of the vehicle got out and ran to the front of the vehicle and yelled to the driver to back up. The passenger described as a male with a long scraggly goat-tee wearing blue jeans bent over and said something to Rowell then ran back and jumped into the vehicle. The vehicle sped off running over Rowell.
A witness of the incident stated a white male got out of the driver’s side of the vehicle ran up to where Rowell was lying then ran back to the vehicle and sped off running over Rowell. The driver was described as a white male with blonde hair wearing a white tee shirt and blue jeans.
The vehicle is described as a white Dodge Ram pick-up truck with New Mexico Plates. No other information is available at this time.
Rowell was wearing his helmet and sustained broken bones and internal injuries. Rowell was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas and remains in ICU.
There are no indications that this was an intentional act against a Border Patrol agent, police officials said.
