Teacher Arrested For Allegedly Having Pot

New information has been uncovered involving the arrest of a Canutillo Middle School teacher. District officials confirmed Wednesday he is a technology teacher and coaches various sports, including football.

ABC-7 has obtained the criminal affidavit detailing what happened in December 2008. It states the FBI was executing a federal search warrant at the home where Joachim Hees was living.

Agents were reportedly looking for something else when they found marijuana.

Hees’ arrest comes as a surprise to district officials and parents who have children enrolled at the middle school.

“Our teachers are supposed to be role models, so I’m very disappointed to hear that,” said Gabriel Solis, who has a son at the school.

“I have a son here, so definitely it’s not a good role model,” explained one mom.

“Yeah, that’s definitely concerning,” said Rodney Ries.

District officials said authorities escorted Hees from the campus on Tuesday.

El Paso police said Hees has been charged with possession of marijuana over 4 ounces. Police explained the arrest stems from the FBI’s investigation.

The affidavit states federal agents were looking for evidence related to child pornography when they found several baggies with pot inside Hees’ bedroom.

Court documents state federal agents also found several pairs of young girls’ panties that appeared to be soiled. Hees allegedly told agents the pot was his as were the panties – which according to the affidavit, he said he soiled while masturbating.

Meanwhile, Canutillo Independent School District officials described Hees as a ‘good teacher.’

They said they haven’t had problems with the 44-year-old who has been with the district for four years.

Hees has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the police investigation.

District officials explained all employees are drug-tested before they are hired. They are not screened again unless an issue is suspected.

As for the FBI investigation, officials said there is nothing they can release as of right now.
