Survey Shows Many Workers Need Coffee To Do Their Jobs
Wednesday was national coffee day and a new survey shows much of today’s workforce depends on java fuel.
If you’re like most people, you can’t get your day started without your cup of Joe.
ABC-7 stopped by radio stations KLAQ, KISS and KROD where local radio hosts tell said coffee is part of the routine of the job.
Mike Martinez, radio host for KISS FM’s morning show gets to work at about 3:30 in the morning.
“Five minutes from me arriving, I’m right in front of the coffee machine,” he said.
Over at Kinley’s House Coffee and Teas the house is packed.
Owner, Kinley Pon, said the coffee business has been recession proof.
“Yes, it’s been good, a very good business,” Pon said.
Meanwhile, Martinez admits to drinking no less than three to four cups of coffee before 6 a.m.
“The only productivity you would get from me is probably throwing things around, you know, I need my coffee!”
And he said he’s not the only one who gets a little cranky.
“It’s everybody’s first stop, you can hear the door and so I know everybody’s walking in. And then when I see them pass my doorway, everybody’s holding their cup of coffee already,” said Martinez.
Coffee appears to be a must-have for lots of workers.According to a Dunkin’ Donuts and Career-Builder survey, 32 percent of workers said they need coffee to get through the workday and 43 percent of coffee drinkers said they’re less productive without their cup of joe.
After resisting the caffeine kick for 13 years, even KROD sports radio host, Steve Kaplowitz has become an occasional coffee drinker.
“It was cold out and I needed something to warm me up, and I drank my first cup of radio station coffee and I’ve been hooked ever since,” said Kaplowitz.
