UPDATE: Man Killed In Early-Morning I-10 Crash
The El Paso Police Department said a man was killed after being hit by a tractor-trailer Sunday morning along Interstate 10 West near Raynolds.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m., authorities said.
El Paso police worked overnight to clear the area. They had to close two lanes of the freeway to diagram the scene.
A preliminary investigation by police revealed the victim, 19-year-old Cesar Zamarron, was a passenger in a Mini Cooper that had pulled into the emergency lane on I-10. Zamarron exited the car and was walking along the shoulder against traffic.
Zamarron walked into the west bound lanes and was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by 61-year-old Harlen Ware, police said.
Zamarron died at the scene.
Investigators are waiting on toxicology results.
This is the fifth traffic fatality in El Paso of 2011.
