Update: Identities Of 3 Teens Involved In Fatal ATV Crash Released
An all-terrain vehicle wreck in the desert in West Texas has left two teenagers dead and another critically hurt after the ATV went off a 25-30-foot crevice of a washed out road.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the three male teens were riding a Yamaha ATV in the desert area two miles north of the 13600 block of East Lake in El Paso County, traveling on a desert roadway.
The young teens suddenly approached a washed out section of the roadway which had the huge crevice. The ATV with all three male teens aboard continued off the crevice and landed at the bottom.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says the victims were located around 3:30 a.m. Monday after worried relatives called to report that the three males were missing Sunday night.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Chris Acosta says two teens were dead at the scene, about 15 miles east of El Paso. The third was transported to a hospital.
The teens have been identified as Alexis Reyes, 16, of Socorro, who was the driver of the ATV and died. Romney Vasquez, 17, also died. Alexis Reyes’ cousin, Felipe Reyes, 16, of El Paso, was a passenger on the ATV and remains in the intensive care unit of a local hospital in critical condition.
On Monday at Socorro High School, friends remembered Alexis Reyes, a sophomore at the school. They wrote messages and drew posters in his memory.
Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Jesse Tovar told ABC-7 that all three of the teens were riding the two-person ATV when it flipped and that none of them were wearing helmets.
Acosta says alcohol was not believed to have been involved.
