Program Makes Sterilization Available To More Pet Owners
As a part of the on-going effort to lower the euthanasia rate and improve responsible pet ownership in our community, the City of El Paso Department of Public Health is pleased to announce the expansion of a program to assist low-income citizens.
Thanks to a partnership with the non-profit agency, Pets Alive, pet owners who meet eligibility requirements will receive vouchers to have their animals spayed or neutered free of charge.
“Our goal is to lower the euthanasia rate and the voucher program is designed to help those who are considered low income or who are on some type of government assistance,” said Janice Nutt, Pets Alive-El Paso Inc. President. “We currently have a waiting list and so we know that there are many pet owners who are interested in doing the right thing for their pets, but there are times when they cannot pay for it. This will make it possible for them,” she added.
Pets Alive-El Paso Inc. board members say that the success of the program is based not only on the commitment from the City and participation from local pet owners, but also on the strong support of local veterinarians who help promote the program.
“Pets Alive has participating veterinarians in all areas of the city which will make it convenient for those who qualify for the program to schedule an appointment,” said Mrs. Nutt.
Applications for spay/neuter vouchers can be obtained by calling Pet’s Alive at (915) 873-PETS (7387) or by visiting http://www.petsaliveelpaso.org/
