Loved Ones Remember Two Mothers Killed in Violent Crash
Loved ones held different fundraisers for the two mothers and child killed in a violent wreck outside Las Cruces June 22.
On Wednesday morning, investigators said Marialy Morga, 22, and her 4-year-old daughter Ylairam Ruby and 18-month-old son Yahir were traveling on I-10 west outside of Las Cruces. Family members said they were on their way to visit the children’s father, who works in Deming.
Investigators said the mother may have pulled over in the right lane with the truck’s hazard lights on, when a FedEx semi truck rear-ended their parked pickup.
The driver of that FedEx truck, Elizabeth Quintana, 43, died, along with Marialy Morga and Ylairam Ruby. The 18-month-old is the sole survivor of that wreck. After the crash, police found him in the family pick-up, strapped in his car seat.
On Saturday morning, members of Morga’s soccer team held a fundraiser to help pay for her funeral expenses. They sold bottles of water on the side of the street.
“It hurts really bad. We were all close to her, especially her daughter. And it’s hard, because the day before she was with us,” said Erika Alvarez, Morga’s former teammate.
Friends said Morga was a giving person who would have helped them in time of need.
On Saturday evening, Quintana’s friends held a fundraiser for her funeral expenses at Rod’s Sports Bar in Central El Paso.
Friends said Quintana was a single mother of three and engaged to be married. They describe her as lively and said she enjoyed riding her purple, customized Harley Davidson motorcycle.
“There’s not one thing I won’t miss about her. She was an awesome woman, an awesome mother,” said her daughter, Linda Marie Quintana.
Quintana’s sister descibed her as selfless.
“She was a selfless mother, a wonderful sister, a beautiful daughter. She was a great friend,” said Maria Magdalena Sena.
The Morga family tells ABC-7 the toddler, Yahir, is doing better and is still in the hospital.
