Paws On Demand: Find A Pet Without Leaving The House
You don’t have to wait to drive all the way down to the Humane Society of El Paso to pick out a pet. The organization teamed up with Time Warner Cable last year to create Paws On Demand.
It’s a way for people to browse on TV some of the pets at the Humane Society, before they head down to the shelter.
“When you look into the eyes of an animal down at the shelter or on one of these little snippets on Paws on Demand they can really get to you,” said Executive Director of the Human Society of El Paso Betty Hoover. “Those dogs can reach out and you can look into their eyes and say, ‘Oh, I really want to take that one home’.”
Hoover says pets on demand helps potential pet-adopters see the true personality of the animals.
“Viewers can see the pets playing with balls, playing with the people and playing with toys,” explained Hoover. “They get a real sense of their personalities. Each snippet lasts approximately 30 to 60 seconds and there’s a voice over that tells a little bit about each pet.”
The Humane Society also recently revamped its website. They feature a section on their site called Pet Finder. It allows you to sift through photos and bios of all of the pets at the shelter. According to Hoover, both Paws On Demand and Pet Finder, are ways to ensure the right owners find the right pets.
“Our real goal is to make positive adoptions that do not result in the animals being returned,” said Hoover.
She hopes the new website along with paws on demand will help unwanted El Paso pets find a new home.
