Dog Euthanized In Animal Cruelty Case

An adult German shepherd was euthanized after Animal Control officers determined the dog would not survive the neglect and injuries it had suffered, police said.

Animal Control officers responded to a report of cruelty to animals about 10 a.m. Thursday on the 9300 block of Hollings Street. The dog was seized and euthanized.

Animal Control officers said they didn’t know exactly what the dog’s specific injuries were. They said they didn’t know whether it was snake bite, acid accident or an infection, but that most of the side of the dog’s face was gone.

The dog’s owner, 19-year-old Amanda Gilpin, was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals later that day. A warrant was issued for her arrest.

Gilpin was booked into the El Paso County Jail. Her bond was set at $2,500.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
