Police: Man Shoots Stepson With Rubber Projectile Fired From Shotgun

A man shot his stepson with a rubber projectile using a 12-gauge shotgun Monday a home on the East Side, police said.

Officers responding to a shooting about 5 p.m. on the 11,800 block of Francis Scobee Drive, found 31-year-old Anthony Young Lewis on the front porch. Officers were told that Lewis was suicidal and he was immediately taken into custody, police said.

Police said there was an argument inside the home before Lewis used a 12-gauge shotgun to fire a rubber projectile at his stepson, 17-year-old Aaron Arreola.

Arreola was struck in the arm and was was treated at an area hospital for a serious injury that was not considered life-threatening.

Officer said they found a set of brass knuckles, which are outlawed, in one of Lewis’ pockets.

Lewis was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family violence and possession of a prohibited weapon. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail with a bond set at $32,500.
