NMSU Students Move In
In a few days, classes will be underway at New Mexico State University, students spent Saturday afternoon settling into their new dorm rooms.
Boxes filled with clothing, plastic shelves and ironing boards were hauled in by returning students and incoming freshmen.
“I’m just excited to move in and get out of the house and start things on my own,” said freshman Tiarion Alverson.
Alverson is among the more than thirty-six hundred students who now live on campus and will have easy access to classes and campus activities.
“Students who live on campus are much more likely to succeed after college, more likely to graduate in four years and likely to have good healthy relationships with other students,” said housing director Julie Weber.
Officials at NMSU say they want the transition to be as smooth as possible. Through out the summer, officials keep in touch with students and their families so they know what to expect when they arrive.
As parents send their kids off to college, students at NMSU get a lesson on living independently. Classes begin Thursday, August 18th.
