Police: Mentally Disabled Man Last Seen July 9
Doa Ana County sheriff’s investigators are looking for a man last seen July 9 while volunteering at a local soup kitchen.
The family of 28-year-old Daniel Hein Jr. notified the Las Cruces Police Department after he did not show up for work on July 13. Later that day, police said Doa Ana County sheriff’s deputies found Hein’s car found abandoned on Picacho Avenue. Police said his father was able to identify the car as Hein’s and recovered it.
Hein was scheduled to be at a hearing in district court early Monday, but failed to appear, police said.
Hein’s family told police that he has a history of mental disability, and because he is currently not taking his medication, they believe he could be a threat to himself and to the public.
Hein, who wears glasses with large, black plastic frames unlike the wire-rimmed ones seen in the photo, has a bushy, dark beard and was last seen wearing sandals. He may also be carrying a backpack
Anyone with information on Hein’s whereabouts is asked to contact Bo Nevarez, a detective with the Doa Ana County Sheriff’s Department, by calling 575-386-4302
