Driver Charged With DWI After Head-On Crash, Police Say
El Paso police have charged a driver they say was responsible for a head-on crash early Saturday morning in east El Paso.
Investigators told ABC-7 that around 1:41 a.m., Michael Swift, 21, was driving his 2009 Jeep Cherokee in the wrong direction on the 6600 block of Gateway West, near Airway Boulevard.
Police said Swift, who lives on the 5000 block of Alabama, then crashed head-on into a 2002 Chevrolet van carrying three people.
The driver of the van, investigators said, was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The other occupants of the van were unharmed.
Police said further investigation revealed that Swift was intoxicated and he was placed under arrest for DWI.
Investigators said Swift was booked into the El Paso County Jail under a $1,000 bond.
