Gang-Related Crimes Down In 2011, Numbers Show

Even though the overall number of gang-related crimes for 2011 has dropped, gang-related aggravated assaults and unlawful carrying of a weapon through September 2011 have increased compared with the same time last year.

The city has experienced a drop in in gang-related attempted murder, burglary, criminal mischief, graffiti, deadly conduct, harassment, retaliation, threats, engaging in organized criminal activity, robbery, and aggravated robbery, police records show.

Overall crime is down 7 percent through Sept. 15.

The following are numbers of gang-related crimes from January to September for both 2010 and 2011:
