Study May Prove County Courthouse Is Haunted
For years, many employees at the El Paso County Courthouse have claimed the building is haunted.
And now, there’s a video they say proves it!
Back in May, when Ghost El Paso announced during a Commissioners Court meeting that they were going to conduct a paranormal study of the courthouse, the lights suddenly went out, spooking everybody in the room. Today, Commissioners Court received the results of that study.
Ghost El Paso spent a night at the County Courthouse back in June and shot video that has a lot of people spooked.
“There was whispering going on in the background,” said County Commissioner Sergio Lewis. “It sounds to me like there are ghosts.”
In addition to whispering and knocking in the 12th floor library, and in several different courtrooms, the video documented mysterious shadows and found the building’s elevators moved on their own from floor to floor … even after they had been locked down.
ABC-7 spoke with several people who work at the County Courthouse, who say they’ve seen or felt ghosts in the building.
“I’ve had numerous employees come up to us and mention to us they hear something behind them,” said Carol Garibay, who works in the County Clerk’s Office and is convinced the vault is haunted. “They’ve named the ghost ‘Chuy.'”
ABC-7 went to the vault, but there were no signs of “Chuy.”
“There are some weird things that happen here,” said Jaime Padilla, another employee of the County Clerk’s office.
“It was an interesting video and rumor has it the courthouse is haunted,” County Judge Veronica Escobar said. “I think this will confirm it for some people.”
The vote to release the video was 4-1. Only Commissioner Sergio Lewis voted against it. He said with the interest in ghost hunting and the paranormal these days, it could possibly become a source of revenue for the county in the future.
