City Council approves changing, narrowing streets around planned ballpark

City Council voted 6-1 today to approve changes to the design of streets surrounding the planned Downtown Triple-A ballpark.
Among the changes will be the narrowing of some streets in order to make them more pedestrian friendly.

Those changes include removing the center turn lane on Santa Fe as well as modifying Missouri from two lanes to one lane. Also, traffic on a portion of Missouri bordering the new ballpark, from Santa Fe to Durango, will become a West-bound one way street.

Only Representative Eddie Holguin voted against the changes. Rep. Carl Robinson abstained from the vote.

Opposition came from an owner of an apartment building located on the corner of Durango and Missouri and opponents of the demolition of City Hall, which will be brought down in order to build the ballpark.
