Trains add additional sights and sounds at downtown ballpark

When you think ballpark do you think trains? Those rolling through downtown El Paso are going to be additional sights and sounds fans get to see while enjoying games.

As trains roll through downtown El Paso Monday afternoon workers continue their near round the clock construction work to make the stadium ready for the Chihuahuas home opener April 28.

On Sunday ABC 7 gave viewers an inside look at the new downtown ballpark. During that tour, a noisy train went by the stadium. That made crews wonder if trains would effect game experience.

“I think it’s gonna make it unique and different. Maybe when we hit home runs we’ll play train whistles instead of something else because we have trains that go by,” Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor. He added the architecture of the new minor league facility embraces railroad history.

“Part of the experience is hearing and seeing the things that are inherent with being downtown,” Taylor said.

Ballpark project manager Alan Shubert said, “The city of El Paso has taken steps to ensure the noise from passing trains will not diminish the fan experience at the downtown ballpark. however, fans will still hear and see the train.”

Union pacific railroad says engineers won’t be allowed to “toot their horns” so to say while passing the downtown ballpark because they won’t be traveling over railroad crossings.
