Police car and SUV crash into wall in Northeast El Paso

An El Paso police car and an SUV crashed into a wall in Northeast El Paso late Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 10:20 pm near the intersection of Yvette and Rushing.

Police said Officer Luis Granillo was investigating a disturbance and witnesses who called police identified the people in two vehicles driving by as having being involved in the original problem.

The 6-year-veteran began following the vehicles, police said, when one of the drivers made a U-turn in front of his patrol car, which led to the crash.

The 23-year-old driver may have been drinking, police said. Officials are not releasing his name as he is facing charges.

Two people were sent to the hospital.

Investigators say the officer was not chasing suspects and was not using the patrol’s emergency equipment.
