Socorro PD still investigating crash, four injured
A Socorro police spokesman says the single-car wreck happened just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The driver of the car somehow lost control, causing the vehicle to flip near some railroad tracks on the 300 block of Horizon Boulevard.
At first, officers thought one person had died. That person, who police haven’t identified, is still in critical condition at Del Sol Medical Center.
“Sometimes you have emergencies where cops try to pass by to get to an accident and it gets kinda crowded at times,” nearby restaurant owner Lazaro Valencia said Sunday afternoon. He said he feels like work has stopped to widen Horizon Boulevard from two lanes to four. He added that at night, the area can be extremely dark, making it dangerous for drivers.
Socorro Police Sergeant Bernie Salinas says the department is still investigating the crash. The man who was driving was taken to the hospital along with the three other passengers.
The debris left at the crash site and the tracks in the dirt make it appear that the driver was traveling north on Horizon before he lost control of the vehicle, but police have not confirmed that is the case.
Though not much information is being released, including why emergency crews at first said one person died, drivers in the area might want to be a little more cautious.
Valencia said since his restaurant has been open, he’s still about 10-15 crashes in the area.
ABC-7 asked Sergeant Salinas if toxicology reports are pending for the driver. He said he didn’t have that information available.
