Jackson Named Capital One All-American Academic

UTEP standout Janice Jackson was selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country teams on Thursday.

An accolade appointed by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Jackson is one of 15 female athletes to receive first-team honors and is first UTEP track and field athlete to receive the honor.

The Jamaican native earned her bachelor’s degree from UTEP in 2013, sporting a 3.93 GPA and is now pursuing her master’s degree in history.

Concluding her final year with the Miners, the two-time All-American closed out her collegiate career with record-breaking performances.

Earlier this year the senior won the Conference USA Indoor Championship title in the60m hurdles and was a member of the 4×400 meter relay team that claimed in the indoor and outdoor titles.

The Conference USA Champion then went on to set the school record in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship with a career-best of 7.98.

At the C-USA Outdoor Championships, she claimed her third straight 100m hurdles conference crown.

Continuing her momentum to the NCAA West Prelims, Jackson registered the program’s second-fastest time in the 100m hurdles (12.98), ranking her seventh in thenation heading into the NCAA Championship.

The All-American went on to compete at nationals but suffered an injury in the semifinals.

This year, Jackson was named to the C-USA All-Academic team and was presented with the 2014 Spring Conference USA Spirit of Service award.
