Fireworks allowed in Mesilla during Fourth of July
Doa Ana county residents have to keep in mind certain restrictions as they celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.
In Doa Ana county, fireworks use is limited to areas that are paved or barren or that have a readily accessible source of water for use by the homeowner or the general public.
In Mesilla, not all aerials are allowed. There are some restrictions because of the dry conditions, Fire Chief Kevin Hoban said.
Stick-type rockets, helicopters and aerial spinners, missile-type rockets and ground audible devices are not allowed in Mesilla.
You must have a valid permit to use the following types of fireworks within the city limits in Mesilla:
-Aerial shell kit-reloadable tubes
-Multiple tube devices
-Shells
-Roman candles
-Cone fountains
-Crackling devices
-Cylindrical fountains
-Flitter sparklers
-Ground spinners
-Illuminating torches
-Toy smoke devices
-Wheels and mines
Fire Chief Hoban reminds that a violation of these and other safety rules is punishable by a fine of not more than $500 dollars and/or up to 90 days in jail.
