Pavlovian edges out favorite for win at Sunland Derby

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico (KVIA) - Jockey Edwin Maldonado rode Pavlovian to victory at the 21st running of the $500,000 Sunland Derby.

The three-year-old colt beat the odds favorite, Express Kid who finished second with jockey Juan J. Hernandez.

The top finishers of the Sunland Derby earn qualifying points for entry into the 2026 Kentucky Derby.

The winner of the Sunland Derby gets 20 points, the runner-up earns 10.
