Walmart helps shoppers save despite rising prices

School is right around the corner, and Walmart is finding alternatives to help shoppers save.

Aug. 8-10 marks Texas’ sales tax holiday, and Walmart hosted Media Day to discuss sales tax holiday and back-to-school trends.

School supply prices have increased over the past year and shoppers should expect to spend 11% more for elementary school students, 20% for middle school students and 5% for high school students.

Erin Hofmann, a spokesperson for Walmart, said they will match any price.

“We are excited about everyday match guarantee, which matches advertised prices from our competitors,” Hofmann said. “Also we launched our savings catcher program nationwide. You just take your receipt from Walmart and go to savingscatcher.walmart.com and if a lower price is advertised by a competitor, you are going to receive the difference on an E-gift card.”

The Texas law exempts more clothes, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced under $100.
