Austin High School track star arrested for allegedly possessing ecstasy
Austin High School distance runner Walter Campa was arrested by El Paso Police on Monday, which comes as a surprise to his coach.
Austin High cross country coach Manny Rodriguez said he was told the past couple of days that Campa was sick.
Rodriguez told ABC-7, “I’m disappointed. He’s a great kid. We’ll have to see what plays out, but right now they are just accusations.”
Rodriguez said Campa is still on the team.
Campa was released from county jail on Wednesday.
Jail records state Campa was held on suspicion of 5 counts of either manufatcturing or delivering less than one gram of a controlled substance, listed as ecstasy.
