EPPD releases name of man killed in officer-involved shooting

El Paso Police have released the identity of the man killed Monday morning in an officer-involved shooting.

His name is Marco Antonio Perez, 22, of El Paso.

Police told ABC-7 this incident is not connected to the murder-suicide and drive-by shooting of an El Paso police officer that occurred two days later.

The officer-involved shooting happened after 5:00 a.m. outside the Quality Inn & Suites in the 6000 block of Montana Avenue.

Police said a hotel employee was confronted and threatened by the man with a gun.

The employee then went inside and called police.

Three officers arrived at the scene and confronted the armed suspect. Police said officers ordered him to put the weapon down, but he refused.

The suspect allegedly threatened the officers, and that is when officers fired, killing him at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

ABC-7 checked criminal case records and found that Perez was arrested twice this year, in January and again in April, on drug-related charges. He was also arrested for criminal trespass of a habitation on October 14, less than a week before his death.

A spokesman for EPPD told ABC-7 the department will close the investigation as long as no other suspects are involved.
