Officials: Majority of NM wildfires contained

Officials say crews have contained the majority of the 94 square miles of wildfires raging throughout the New Mexico.

The Thompson Ridge Fire, the state’s largest blaze at 37 square miles, is now 80 percent contained as of Monday. On the other side of the Santa Fe National Forest, the nearly 16-square mile Tres Lagunas fire north of Pecos was 90 percent contained.

Meanwhile, officials say the 35-square-mile Silver Fire in southern New Mexico’s Gila National Forest showed little signs of rapid growth despite drier conditions. The fire hasn’t burned into the historic mining town of Kingston, but crews worked over the weekend to protect it.

Official say that before that fire finishes there would be teams of hydrologists, soil scientists, and biologist who will visit to prepare monsoons.
