Texas DPS seizes glitter, tampons, other ‘suspicious’ items before abortion debate
Texas Capitol security officials say they have confiscated bottles suspected of being filled with urine and feces in the security line to get into the Senate gallery for Friday’s debate on an abortion restrictions bill.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are searching bags of anyone trying to get into the public gallery. They are looking for items that could be thrown at the senators on the floor below.
DPS officials say 18 bottles suspected of containing feces and one bottle suspected of having urine were confiscated. Paint, glitter and confetti also were taken.
Other items being taken included feminine hygiene products such as tampons. Sen. Kirk Watson says he intervened to stop the confiscation of tampons and said he was assured by Senate security it would cease.
