Flooding damages men’s dorm at Salvation Army Shelter in South El Paso
Guests at the Salvation Army Shelter in in South El Paso had a rude awakening Wednesay morning when heavy rains damaged a section of the building.
Eleven men sleeping in that area were temporarily moved to the dining hall.
“That specific part of the shelter is completely inhabitable,” said Major Mike Morton, El Paso’s Area Commander said of the area that flooded. “We are presently working with other space in our building, the Rescue Mission and other shelters to accommodate our overnight guests.”
The men’s dorm will be closed for an undetermined amount of time due to the process of submitting an insurance claim and having someone fix the dorm, Morton said.
The Salvation Army is currently housing 80 individuals at its located at 4300 East Paisano, including families with children.
