El Paso man found guilty of intoxication manslaughter
Jurors found an El Paso man guilty of two counts of intoxication manslaughter Saturday, during a rare weekend court appearance.
Eric Barajas, 36, was found guilty to a crime dating back to 2009.
Barajas was reportedly driving drunk when officials said he struck and killed 26-year-old Orlando Figueroa and 22-year-old Angela Gonzalez, who were walking on Lee Trevino Drive.
They died at the scene.
Defense argued Saturday that Gonzalez and Figueroa were intoxicated and were not using a crosswalk.
Prosecutors maintained that Barajas fled the scene and even ran a red light with a shattered windshield.
Sentencing is scheduled for Monday morning.
