Explosions heard in Kyiv one day after visit from US officials

(CNN) — Explosions were heard in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv on Tuesday morning as Russia resumed attacks following a three day-halt during a visit by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The explosion was heard by a CNN reporter on the ground around 3:30 a.m. local time (8:30 p.m. ET).

Kyiv officials said there were reports of damage to residential buildings in two districts of the city. Ballistic missiles had been fired towards the city, they said.

“Please remain in shelters until the air raid alert is lifted,” officials said on Telegram.

Witkoff and Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, met with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv Sunday, one day after holding intensive meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as part of Washington’s renewed push to end the war in Ukraine.
