New Immigration Center Opens in El Paso

A new immigration center has officially opened in the Borderland.

The Thomas Randolph Rey Family Immigration Center aims to temporarily house unaccompanied immigrant children who have crossed the border in the past weeks.

The immigration center is set to house nearly 80 children at a time. Organizers refurbished what used to be the West Texas Community Intervention Center.

The center has been remodeled with an upgraded kitchen, is freshly painted and kid- friendly.

The people involved with the new center said they want to help these children as best they can.

“We’re not just going to be one of these that just shops facility to facility to facility so we can get another dollar based on the child coming in the door,” Chief Operating Officer Mark Young said. “We’re going to make sure that the children that come into our facility get everything they need before they leave.”

Young said they expect the children to arrive by July 18, and the official ribbon-cutting will also take place on the 18th.
