La Llorona Park closed due to rising river water levels

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) - Las Cruces City Park Rangers and the Parks and Recreation Department say rising water levels at the Rio Grande caused the closure of La Llorona Park as a precaution.

The storm brought enough rain water to cause rising levels in the river. This creates a life-threatening situation that could prove dangerous for anyone within the park, said city officials in a release.

The park will remain closed through Wednesday, September 30 and monitored before reopening.

Officials encourage the public to avoid the area.
