El Paso City Hall vandalized overnight; man arrested
One man has been arrested and charged with allegedly vandalizing the El Paso City Hall sign.
El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies have charged Echeverria with Graffiti u/$1500, Evading Arrest, and Resisting Arrest. El Paso Police are working on additional charges.
The off-duty deputies were working at Leo’s nightclub when they were flagged down in reference to a person spray painting El Paso City Hall’s sign. Deputies were sent to 300 Mills at about 12:38 a.m. Thursday to assist two off-duty sheriff’s deputies who were in foot pursuit near El Paso City Hall.
The deputies located the man, later identified as Echeverria, in a ravine near the intersection of Campbell and Franklin.
The graffiti on the City Hall sign said “Daniel Saenz murdered” and YouTube murderer.”
Saenz was shot and killed by El Paso Police Officer Jose Flores while he was in custody outside the El Paso County Jail.
On Monday, city officials released the surveillance video of the shooting,
Officer Jose Flores is back on the job after a grand jury did not hand down an indictment. He can still be sued in civil court.
The ABC-7 newsroom received a tip that the Pebble Hills Regional Command Center was vandalized on Wednesday night and that the graffiti made reference to Daniel Saenz’s death, too.
The graffiti was covered when an ABC-7 photographer arrived.
