Perry considering another presidential run
The 2016 presidential elections are seeing more moves by candidates preparing to enter the race. Could Texas governor Rick Perry be considering another shot at the White House?
While Perry is definitely done as Texas governor, he seems to be leaning towards another run for the presidency.
Perry sat down with CNN recently to talk about his past, present and future in politics, including the not-too-flattering republican debate performance in the lead-up to the 2012 election.
But Perry says he’s past all that, and has been studying and preparing ever since. He is about to step down as governor after 14 years, the longest serving in Lone Star State history.
He has some political baggage, including an indictment for an abuse of power charge his advisors call politically motivated. But Perry is trying to reintroduce himself as competent and charismatic – as he test drives his message for a probable second white house run.
“Well running for president of the United States requires an inordinate amount of preparation,” Perry said. “Sitting at the feet of Henry Kissinger and George Schultz, picking their brain about what’s going on in the world. That has paid great dividends. If I make the decision to run for the Presidency, I will be prepared.”
Besides boning up on policy and theory, Perry has been working on his performance on the podium as well. He’s working with a company called Podium Masters, run by a former head of Royal Shakespeare Company. Perry said it’s to help improve his public speaking, and avoid another “oops” moment in 2016.
