El Paso could join competition to bring thousands of jobs

Tesla Motors is looking open a new plant to produce batteries cells for its electric cars to put 500,000 vehicles on the roads by 2020.

ABC-7’s news partner, The El Paso Inc. is reporting the city could begin working to attract Tesla to bring its $5 billion plant to El Paso.

Other cities in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada are all vying to become the location for the plant.

The factory would create 6,500 jobs to manufacture the lithium-ion battery cells.
