Relative of Las Cruces bowling alley massacre speaks out about second film
This week Las Cruces remembered one of the darkest days in the city’s history, the 25th anniversary of the bowling alley massacre.
To this day, no one has been arrested and the Las Cruces Police Department said it remains an open investigation.
On February 10, 1990, police said two gunmen stormed the Las Cruces bowling alley, shot seven people, stole thousands of dollars from the safe and then set part of the building on fire.
Four people died that day, the youngest victims only two and six years old.
The suspects were never caught.
Filmmaker Charlie Minn released his documentary “Nightmare in Las Cruces” in 2010, in hopes it would lead to a break in the case.
This year, Minn decided to release a “Nightmare in Las Cruces, Part 2”.
Minn said his intent is to update the public on the investigation, but not everyone is on board with the new film.
Audrey Teran lost her husband and two daughters that day. She supported Minn’s first film, but changed her mind after she saw the gruesome images.
Teran said she was disregarded when it came to the making of the second film.
“I didn’t see the need for a sequel, only four years later. ‘Squash it’ were my exact words, just squash it,” said Teran.
“I feel now, through the first documentary, that my children are seen in the public eye as they are seen on the floor of the bowling alley.”
Teran said Charlie Minn never reached out to her.
“I’m absolutely shocked,” said Minn about Teran’s allegations.
Minn said the second film is the re-release of the first film with additional interviews from investigators and Teran’s brother-in-law, Anthony Teran.
Anthony Teran was the brother and uncle of three of the victims and he supports both films.
The extended coverage does not include Audrey.
“I got a message from Anthony out of nowhere a couple of weeks before I had to turn the movie in that she (Audrey) was against doing part two,” said Minn.
He maintains he did try to reach out to Audrey.
“The Lord knows the truth. The Lord knows that he did not communicate with me,” said Audrey.
Charlie Minn has said he will give ten to twenty percent of proceeds from the movie to the families.
He said he won’t know for about another week how much the movie made in profit.
Audrey told ABC-7 she will not be accepting any money.
“Nightmare in Las Cruces, Part 2” is playing at Premiere Cinemas inside Bassett Center in El Paso and Cineport 10 in Las Cruces.
