U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte being investigated by Office of Inspector General
The Fox affiliate in San Antonio is reporting that U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte is under investigation by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General.
According to the report, Almonte was paid for unauthorized training presentations and failed to report the income or reimbursement of it.
Almonte is in charge of the U.S. Western District of Texas which includes El Paso and San Antonio.
The station’s report says the complaint also states that Almonte “misused his position by using federal employees and taxpayer resources by giving them tasks not related to their official duties.”
Almonte sent ABC-7 the following statement regarding the investigation:
“I have been advised of an anonymous complaint filed with the Office of Inspector
General. I will cooperate fully with the investigation. I am confident that there will be a fair and favorable determination. I am proud of my service with the United States
Marshals Service and my focus is on the performance of my duties.”
Almonte has been the U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Texas since June 2, 2010.
According to his bio, “as a lifelong El Pasoan with nearly 25 years of service in the El Paso Police Department, he spent the majority of his career in narcotics investigations and retired as Deputy Chief of the Department in 2003. ”
